DepEd Releases 2025-2026 School Calendar, with 197 Blissful Class Days

Vacation season has just started but the education department has already set a roadmap that the country’s basic education is going to follow for the next academic year.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has released April 15, 2025, the Multi-Year Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities which details the different activities and expected dates of the government’s school activities.

DepEd Releases 2025-2026 School Calendar. Per DepEd Order No. 012 s. 2025 signed by DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, the school year 2025-2025 shall formally open on June 16, 2025, (Monday) and end on March 31, 2026, (Tuesday).

Overall, the upcoming school year shall consist of 197 class days inclusive of the End-of-School Year (EOSY) Rites, or as may be determined by subsequent issuances in case of changes due to unforeseen circumstances.

This is in accordance with RA 7797, which says that school year shall consist of not more than 220 class days and shall start on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.

Meanwhile, private schools, Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs), and state/local universities and colleges may adopt these multi-year implementing guidelines on the school calendar.

Mode of Learning Delivery

In case of declaration of suspension or cancellation of in-person classes by authorized offices due to emergencies and hazards, schools and CLCs shall automatically implement Education in Emergencies – Alternative Delivery Modes.

EiE-ADM ensures the continuity of learning amidst disruptions caused by disasters and other crises. This is based on DO 22, s. 2024, Revised Guidelines on Class and Work Suspension in Schools During Disasters and Emergencies.

Schools have their own Learning and Service Continuity Plan (LSCP) through Distance Learning Delivery Modalities (DLDMs), whether Modular Distance Learning (MDL), Online Distance Learning (ODL), TV-Based Instruction (TVI), Radio-Based Instruction (RBI), or blended learning.

However, in-person learning delivery modality shall remain the primary learning delivery modality in all schools.

For students enrolled in schools with classroom shortages, engaged in co-curricular activities, with disabilities, or in other difficult circumstances shall follow a separate omnibus policy on learning delivery.

Schools and CLCs shall observe national and authorized local holidays declared by law and local ordinances.

Schools may re-visit DO 9, s. 2005, Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith, regarding this.

School Activities

The school calendar and activities recently signed by Sec. Angara has detailed other school activities.

Early Registration of Learners. This includes the routinary early registration of incoming Kindergarten, Transferees, Potential ALS, and learning entering basic education for the first time.

Enrollment. Enrollment is scheduled one week before the official start and opening of classes.

Brigada Eskwela. A simultaneous nationwide kickoff ceremonies and advocacy activities during the same week to launch Brigada Eskwela, a nationwide school preparation activity.

Schools shall also coduct Mandatory Learners’ Health Assessment and Oplan Balik Eskwela.

Co-Curricular Activities. Co-curricular activities include learning experiences that supplement the formal academic curriculum – designed to enhance knowledge application and develop skills in various contexts.

School Health and Nutrition Activities. These includes conducting medical, dental, nursing, and immunization services, including psychosocial assessments, mental health first aid, and guidance and conseling.

Learner Government Elections. This is a school activity for the students to experience the voting process in democracy, selecting school leaders. Two-week period is allocated here which includes – preparation, campaigning, and voting.

General Assembly and Parent-Teacher Conference. Activities here include orientation of stakeholders with DepEd’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, Curriculum, and Ancillary services that support learners’ development. This also includes informing parents re children’s learning progress and performance and encourage parental involvement in school activities.

Mid-School Year Break. Scheduled last week of October, this serves as time for students to re-charge and engage in non-academic activities.

Professional Development of Teachers. Educators shall engage in targeted professional development activities aligned with their development plans to enhance their practice, address challenges, and improve learning outcomes. This includes INSET, LAC, collaborative expertise sessions.

Holiday Break and Resumption of Classes.  Schools have a two-week break, to take place during the last two weeks of December, with classes resuming within the first week of January the following year.

End-of-School-Year-Activities. The culminating activity for the school year which include graduation ceremonies and moving-up rites. Meanwhile, teachers shall finish and hand-over academic reports and other school documents.

National Learning Intervention Program. RA 12028 which is about the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning Program seeks for the implementation of a national learning intervention program for the mastery of essential learning competencies and recovering from learning loses.
